Enterprise Employee Engagement Dashboard & Companion Deck
01 — Overview
The Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS) was OPM's annual measure of federal workplace culture, engagement, and leadership. Agencies respond with an action plan, and one piece of that plan — Monitoring and Reporting — requires an ongoing mechanism to track whether engagement initiatives are actually working. I contributed to that piece on a quarterly basis: designing the data collection, building the detailed report, and producing the executive summary leadership used to review progress.
(Recreated here with fictitious data to protect project details.)
02 — Challenge & Approach
Each quarter, five separate engagement initiatives — director lounge circle chats, tech talks, performance appraisals, new hire onboarding, and team building sessions — generated their own attendance records and survey responses. Leadership needed a clear read on whether these initiatives were working, but they didn't have time to dig through raw session data to get it. The reporting process had to serve two audiences at once: enough detail to support compliance documentation, and enough clarity to hold an executive's attention for five minutes.
To meet this need, I helped build and refine a repeatable quarterly pipeline rather than a disorganized ad-hoc report:
-
Attendance was logged per session, and I designed post-session surveys in Microsoft Forms to capture how employees felt about each initiative.
-
Quarterly data was cleaned and structured in Excel ahead of reporting
-
A Power BI dashboard broke down attendance, invited-versus-attended rates, and survey completion across all five initiative types.
-
A PowerPoint deck, built in the same visual style as the dashboard, distilled the headline numbers for leadership review, with a link back to the full report for anyone who wanted to go deeper.
-
The highlights deck went to leadership each quarter, closing the loop on the action plan's reporting requirement.
03 — Outcome
By pairing a detailed Power BI report with an executive-ready summary, this process kept the organization compliant with the FEVS action plan while giving leadership a five-minute read on engagement health each quarter.
